Amapiano is a South African musical genre and lifestyle. In short,a culture which earned its popularity from the dusty streets of the township in the country.

There is a debate about which township Amapiano originated from. Amapiano was born in the soil of the streets of South Africa. “ it was never something you’ll hear on radio, a lot of radios undermine it. Infact they called it Inferior quality except from Da Kruk a radio presenter who gave it a platform on radio by inteod Amapiano hour” Mark Khoza said.

One of the biggest TV shows in South Africa ‘the live amp’ broadcasted Amapiano and that was the first time it was broadcasted nationally. The whole epis was dedicated to the Amapiano genre.

Amapiano is now popular among young South Africans, the main reason for this is the social media and interne. A lot of social media influencers have become Amapiano ambassadors by default. They use Amapiano songs in their videos and when the videos goes viral the songs becomes popular. On the Tik Tok social media platform the Amapiano hashtag stands at more than 570 millions views and shares of global on the Amapiano Groves playlist on Spotify have increased by 116% globally over the past.
