Awhile back we looked at meals eaten for dinner and I said that in Nigeria basically anything goes for night food and the same goes for breakfast. Most times Nigerians don't have time to eat breakfast before heading to work but when we have the time it's always the common foods that are made and nothing too extraordinary. However it is advisable to go with very light food and simple meals in the morning.
1. NOODLES
This is a very common and easy to make dish in Nigeria. It is sometimes eaten as either dinner or lunch too, because it is so easy to make children learn to make this meal before any other. It is usually boiled or fried egg and sometimes corned beef, sardines, cray fish with pepper depending on the person making the noodles and the people eating the finished meal. Restaurants these days even sell delicious noodles. Example is indomie cafe.
2. BREAD AND TEA
This is another common and easy make meal eaten for breakfast. This is usually the go to meal for when one is rushing to work because it can easily be thrown together. This dish can be accompanied with boiled egg, fried egg, sausage, sardines, corned beef or geisha. The bread could also be simple with just bread spread like butter or peanut butter.
3. EWA AGOYIN
This is another popular breakfast idea in Nigeria, it is beans and bread (ewa agoyin). It is mostly sold in Lagos and can also be found in local Nigerian restaurants. The beans made here is cooked alongside a special stew and eaten with soft bread, Agege bread.
4. PAP WITH MOI-MOI OR AKARA
This is another common and easy to make meal in Nigeria. Pap or Akamu or Ogi could be substituted with custard made from custard powder. Both the Moi-Moi and Akara eaten with it could be bought or made at home, even the pap could be bought also.
5. CEREAL
This is mostly eaten by children before going to school. However this meal is not as filling as other options. The most common cereal in Nigeria is Cornflakes followed by GoldenMorn and then coco pops. The prices of the imported ones have however increased and Nigeria has started making their own cereals but some might not be as good as the imported ones.
