And You're either going to love it or hate it.
The much anticipated second season of HBO's blockbuster show Euphoria has been dominating streaming charts since its release in January.
The first season of the drama captivated both adults and teenagers with its realistic portrayal of serious subjects, including mental illness, substance misuse, sexuality, and interpersonal interactions. People are questioning, "What's the point of watching this?"
RUE AND JULES/ SOURCE: HBO
Young Rue, the show's narrator and protagonist, is seventeen years old. A drug addict and bisexual, she has a shaky relationship with her friends and family. Jules is the love of her life and the subject of most of the story. This program is unlike any other adolescent show you've ever seen on television. Euphoria thrives when other series like Grown-ish or 13 Reasons Why fail or mishandle serious issues.
It's not talked about enough how much effort was put into each character. The creators of the script deserve their flowers. As each character's backstory is revealed, the reader gets a deeper understanding of their thoughts and actions. The film's director, Sam Levinson, accurately informs the audience of the hazards of bad child rearing and the impact that the family has on the individual. Characters like Nate, are an excellent illustration of how a dysfunctional household may produce a dysfunctional human being capable of posing a threat to society. The 17-year-old drug dealer with 10 years of experience, Fezco, In spite of the dangers of selling drugs, he still has a strong sense of right and wrong within him. Rue's drug addiction has been linked to her father's death by a slew of individuals. For example, Cassie and Lexi, for example, live with their mother, an alcoholic, in a single-parent household.
ANGUS CLOUD AS FEZCO/ SOURCE: HBO
For many viewers, the most appealing aspect of the program is not its gorgeous visuals or its endearing cast, but rather the degree to which these elements are based on actual events. Some examples include premarital sex and the inclination to act older than one's years. There are, however, a lot of "adult-behavior" youngsters who have adult issues. As an example, having sex and recording it, then the video ends up getting leaked. That part tells the story of how one night of indulging in sexual relations with a stranger at a party can transform you into someone you were never meant to be. Or, how drug use can alter the way people view you in your social circle.
The parents' representation in the series is also accurate. Caretakers of major characters are people, too, and their experiences can have an impact on the children they raise, moulding them in a particular way. For example, the way Mrs. Howard (Cassie and Lexi's mother) acts as if she doesn't realize how much older the girls are when she goes out drinking with them. If Rue's mother is doing everything correctly for her daughter, then it is apparent that her efforts are not fruitful. But in season 2, the only time we saw her, she complimented Rue's guardian and mentor, Ali, on being a gorgeous guy, demonstrating that she has her own desires and wants to be taken care of. Rue is a detrimental influence on Jules, and Jules' father (a turtle of a guy) wants to protect his daughter from harmful influences by advising her to break up with Rue. Another case in point is Nate's father, a gay guy who has kept his sexual orientation a secret from his family (although Nate found out in season 1). Even though he had an aggressive style of dealing with those who messed with his business, Fezco's grandmother taught him to be kind to family members.
DOMINIC FIKE AS ELLIOT/ SOURCE: HBO
Now that I'm done yapping, let's get back to the action with our favorite characters. Rue's only activity thus far has been to take more drugs. She is losing friends since she has no social life. The only person she makes friends with is another drug addict. In addition, her and Jules' relationship is strained. A number of new characters, such as Elliot (Dominic Fike) are introduced in the season pilot and the second episode.
CASSIE (SYDNEY) AND NATE (JACOB)/ SOURCE: HBO
We've also learned more about Cassie and Nate's personalities in this season's premiere. While in the first episode of season 1, we see Nate giving Mkay pictures of Cassie in her undies and telling him about her promiscuity, we see him genuinely being drawn to her in the first episode of season 2. His feelings for her became stronger as the series progressed. As a side note, Cassie is supposedly Maddy’s best friend. Even though he still wants to be with Cassie by episode 4, we see him rekindle his romance with Maddy. For the time being, this appears to be the season's main conflict.
ALEXA DEMIE AS MADDY/ SOURCE: HBO
Despite this, there is one thing I'd like to draw attention to: the lack of character development and the abandonment of several plotlines from the first season. Rue's narrative is the only thread connecting the many stories thus far. Without her guiding the viewer, the episodes feel disjointed and adrift. Aside from that, the show's breathtaking cinematography, stellar performances by the cast, and general vulgarity perfectly capture the current state of affairs in the world of teenagers. Resonant and uncensored, this season so far is a must-watch.
